UPCOMING WEBINAR: U.S. PHYSICIAN PERSPECTIVES ON THE LAUNCH OF TEFLARO AND DIFICID: WHERE WILL THESE NOVEL THERAPIES FIT INTO THE TREATMENT ALGORITHM FOR SERIOUS BACTERIAL INFECTIONS?

In its LaunchTrends® Institutional studies of Teflaro and Dificid, Arlington Medical Resources (AMR) and BioTrends Research Group surveyed 102 infectious disease (ID) specialists and internists to assess their awareness, trial, and usage of each of these products.

September 27, 2011—Exton, Penn.— Forest/AstraZeneca’s Teflaro (ceftaroline) and Optimer/Cubist’s Dificid (fidaxomicin) are newly launched antibiotics that will serve distinct segments of the antibacterial market – Teflaro will be used primarily in the inpatient setting whereas use of Dificid will likely span the inpatient and outpatient settings. As a next-generation cephalosporin with first-in-class activity against MRSA, Teflaro represents a new treatment option in the highly competitive markets for acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSIs) and community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP). In contrast, Dificid is a novel treatment option in the less competitive market for C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) which has not seen a new therapy since the 1986 approval of ViroPharma’s Vancocin (oral vancomycin capsules). The recent commercialization of both therapies in the U.S. market stands to impact the treatment of ABSSSI, CABP, and CDAD and the usage of leading therapies for each of these indications.

In its LaunchTrends® Institutional studies of Teflaro and Dificid, Arlington Medical Resources (AMR) and BioTrends Research Group surveyed 102 infectious disease (ID) specialists and internists to assess their awareness, trial, and usage of each of these products.

The webinar, presented by AMR's Vice President of Research, Danielle L. Drayton, PhD, will answer the following questions:

  • What impact will Dificid and Teflaro have on the treatment of their respective FDA-approved indications and which currently marketed products, if any, will be most affected by the availability of Dificid and Teflaro?
  • How have physicians begun to incorporate Teflaro into their treatment of ABSSSIs and CABP treatment and how is the use of the drug expected to evolve in the future?
  • What is the profile of current Teflaro prescribers?
  • What is the level of awareness and perception of Dificid among ID specialists and internists? How does this translate into their likelihood of using the product?
  • What is the reaction of physician’s to Dificid’s profile including the drug’s efficacy and cost. How might their perceptions of Dificid impact their use of the drug for CDAD patients in the hospital and nursing home/long-term care facilities?
  • What do physicians see as the key drivers and constraints on the use of Teflaro and Dificid?

Dr. Drayton will conduct a live Q&A session after the presentation.
